Last month’s Insider Post promised some interesting projects ahead, and we’re now happy to announce that Roar has moved beyond Sri Lankan shores, with the launch of Roar Bangladesh. This is the first step in our goal to expand into the South Asian region by doing what we do best ‒ providing quality content to our readers and audiences. It’s a formula which has worked well for us here in Sri Lanka, and we hope to replicate it in the land of Bengal.
Our Bangladeshi cousin is only around a month old, but our team over there, although small, is both capable and dedicated to producing the kind of engaging content that has become the Roar trademark. The site currently publishes articles related to arts, culture, and lifestyle ‒ not too different from when Roar first started out two years ago in Sri Lanka, except that this time around, it’s in Bengali.
Over the last year-and-a-half, we’ve managed to grow Roar into a leading, reliable source of information and in-depth analysis on national current affairs, as well as tech and lifestyle content. We recently realised that the online media space in Bangladesh also had a significant dearth in terms of quality lifestyle- and arts-related content, just like Sri Lanka did when we first started. In addition to that, the country is home to 20 million internet users, a number that continues to grow and is almost four times the number of internet users in Sri Lanka. In short, it seemed like an opportunity just waiting for Roar to venture into ‒ and we’re happy to note that the response from the Bengali audience has been nothing but encouraging. We’ve already amassed close to 50,000 likes on Facebook.
While we are enthusiastic about our new adventure in Bangladesh, we continue to be equally excited about changing the landscape of the online content space here in Sri Lanka. That was our original mission (still is), and we have a long way to go towards achieving it.
In case you’re wondering, we will continue to invest in Roar.lk, and yes, we’ve got more ideas in the works. So stay tuned ‒ and in the meantime, feel free to check out Roar Bangladesh by visiting roar.com.bd.
