The charges recently brought against former Secretary to the Defence Ministry, Hemasiri Fernando and Inspector General of Police, Pujith Jayasundara are the first to be made in connection with the 2019 Easter Sunday Terror Attacks.

Despite this, investigations into the attack have drawn criticism from the Catholic Church, and particularly Cardinal Malcolm Ranjith, Archbishop of Colombo, who has cited prolonged delays in justice and a lack of transparency.
