Iftar at Independence Square

Iftar at Independence Square: Over 3,000 people broke their fast at Independence Square on 02 April (Sunday), almost at the risk of running out of food organised for the event. However, thanks to those who brought food and shared with everyone, the iftar at the Square was a successful abundance of samosas, kanji, faluda and tea that were shared among people of all faiths to break fast with the Muslim community.

The event organisers — the Sri Lanka Muslim Civil Society, the Soup Kitchen Sri Lanka and the Torrington Walkers’ Team — shared a heartwarming moment of prayer for the country.

This year’s iftar occurred after a lapse of three years, the last of which occurred in 2019. The organisers claimed that due to COVID-19 and the various economic difficulties, the event was not organised during the last three years.
