The year 2015 has been pretty productive for us at Roar. At the risk of sounding self-indulgent, we have seen some real, tangible progress in terms of the quality of our content, judging by your feedback, comments from industry professionals and, of course, the sheer number of shares across all platforms of social media.

From what was once a relatively unknown website posting quirky, BuzzFeed type content on a biweekly basis, and the occasional startup review, we have expanded into a serious platform for in depth analysis, opinion pieces, travel guides and weekly news roundups, while and this is important to note not forgetting to stay true to our roots and have a little fun every now and then. We are well and truly humbled by the overwhelming response we have received and continue to receive, and we look forward to providing you with even better and richer content in the years to come.

Here’s a look at seven of our best articles from the year 2015, in no particular order.

1.10 Things Only Sri Lankans Living Abroad Would Understand

This, to date, is one of our highest viewed articles, and the feedback it received was unprecedented. Our staff writer Gazala’s heartwarming words that beautifully and accurately captured the longing and yearning a Sri Lankan living abroad would have for their island home resonated with thousands. A true masterpiece.

2. Tinder In Sri Lanka – Swipe Left Or Right?

Guest writer Praveen Jayasuriya did a pretty comprehensive analysis of the much hyped Google Loon launch and what it means for Sri Lanka’s ICT.

4. 10 Types Of Boys You Meet In Sri Lanka

Another one of our biggest hits. The feedback for this hilarious take on the different types of Sri Lankan men you encounter on a daily basis was…interesting, to say the least. Well worth a read.

5. Returning Home After The War: Not Refugees Anymore

A poignant set of stories and photographs of Sri Lankan asylum seekers, returning home after years spent in Tamil Nadu.

6. Budget 2016: What’s In It For You?

Staff writer Maryam did a helpful summary of the absurdly complex Budget 2016. A good read for anyone concerned about what’s in store for us over the next few years.

7. Five Mountains Every Sri Lankan Needs To Climb

This was the culmination in a series of experiments we have been doing with travel content, and the feedback has been extremely encouraging. We hope to keep this trend going.
